THE task force formed to help the 900 Scunthorpe steelworkers facing redundancy was today submitting a multi-million-pound bid for Government aid.
Members of the group - chaired by North Lincolnshire Council leader Liz Redfern - include Tata Steel, UK Steel, Jobcentre Plus, the Local Enterprise Partnerships for the Humber and Lincolnshire and North Lindsey College.
They met at the Civic Centre yesterday to plan a course of action and were this afternoon sending a bid letter to 10 Downing Street asking for urgent support to help workers find new jobs.
The meeting, which was also attended by representatives of the area's three MPs, also forged an operational group which will offer support to steelworkers ahead of the group's next meeting on November 6.
