Government’s support and favourable policies are essential to meet the target of 300 million tonnes per annum steel production by 2025, Naveen Jindal, Chairman, Jindal Steel and Power, said on Friday. Jindal was speaking at an event organised by CII and said that since the metal was still very expensive for the common man, per capita consumption has been stagnant. Meanwhile, Minister of State for Steel Vishnu Deo Sai reiterated that the steel policy will focus on capacity addition and address issues related to raw material security, environment challenges and land acquisition. “Discussions are on for the establishment of an eastern freight corridor to address logistics issues faced by the industry,” Sai said.
