The Commerce Department will announce today whether it will impose preliminary anti-dumping duties on a broad category of steel products used in automobiles, appliances, agricultural equipment and industrial equipment. It could be the latest victory for the U.S. steel industry in its campaign to stop low-cost imports from China and other countries.
The case would target corrosion-resistant steel imports from China, India, Italy, South Korea and Taiwan that are being sold at less than fair market value. Petitioners in the case include some of the largest U.S. steel producers: United States Steel Corp., Nucor Corp., ArcelorMittal USA, AK Steel Corp., Steel Dynamics Inc., and California Steel Industries Inc.
Imports of corrosion-resistant steel products from China, India, Italy, South Korea, and Taiwan were valued at an estimated $685 million, $379.5 million, $99.1 million, $416.7 million, and $577.5 million, respectively, in 2014. Revisit the U.S. steel industry’s efforts here
