Steel safeguard duty on hot rolled coil (HRC) has brought fear among the importers but when compared price-to-price, imports are still more viable for long products, says GD Mundra, Sarda Energy.
Seasonal demand and a significant pick up in construction demand may result in steel companies hiking prices by Rs 1,500 per tonne, says GD Mundra, Director, Sarda Energy . Speaking to CNBC-TV18, he says the imposition of steel safeguard duty on hot-rolled coil (HRC) has brought fear among the importers but when compared on a price basis, imports are still more viable for long products. Meanwhile, the material imported at the port is USD 15-30 cheaper than what is received by the companies in Central India, he adds.
