Iron ore exports through Paradip Port spurted by more than 313% month-on-month to 227,550 tons in May 2016 compared to 55,000 in April 2016, as per provisional information available with ISMW.
Year-on-year, imports of the material in the first 2 months (April-May) of the current fiscal (2016-17) were at 282,550 tons against nil seen in the same period of the previous fiscal (2015-16).
Overall, export trends have been very erratic with gaps in-between.
Total exports of the material in 2015-16 were at 392,630 tons.

In May 2016, all consignments, comprising pellets, went to China at a range of Rs 3,260 – Rs 6,578 per ton.
In April 2015, a single consignment of pellets went to China at Rs 4,078 per ton.
