December 11: India’s steel consumption rose 11.2% to 5.99 million tons (mt) in November 2015 against 5.39 mt seen in the same period last year, according to provisional steel ministry data.
On a month-on-month basis, consumption fell 15.5% over the October consumption figure of 7.10 mt.
Finished steel production fell 3.5% year-on-year to 7.44 mt while, on a month-on-month basis, it fell 4.9%.
Imports fell 6.9% year-on-year to 764,000 tons, while on a month-on-month basis they rose 35.3%.
Exports, year-on-year, fell 40.5% to 241,000 tons. On a month-on-month basis, exports fell 5.5%.
Cumulative provisional figures for April-November, 2015-16 showed that steel consumption grew 5.3% to 52.24 mt, while finished steel production fell 0.7% 60.80 mt.
Imports during April-November, 2015 rose 34.4% to 7.44 mt, while exports fell 31.2% to 2.52 mt.
