The Mexican government is negotiating extending or cutting compensatory duties it had imposed on the imports of steel plates from Russia, Ukraine and Romania, the Mexican Ministry of Economy said Wednesday.
The review, initiated by the request of the largest Mexican steel producer Altos Hornos de Mexico, will deal with the period from July 2010 to June 2015.
The current tariff for the imports of steel plates from Russia stands at 36.8 percent and for Ukraine 60.1 percent, which the importers must pay to the Mexican budget.
Last week, the Mexican government launched a similar investigation on duties of wire rod from China. According to local producers, the imports followed unfair trade practices.
