Total sales of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) stood at 117,451 units in February 2016, down 0.92% compared to 118,551 units recorded in the same month last year. The New Year began a bit disappointing for India’s largest car-maker as January sales decreased 3%.
However, the company informed the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) that, “During the month, the reservation agitation had disrupted component supplies, causing a temporary suspension of production by the company. Total production loss due to this was over 10,000 units. Despite that, the company was able to achieve marginal growth in domestic sales.”
Domestic sales of the company were marginally up 0.2% to 108,115 units this year from 107,892 units in the previous year. The export market was the major concern because export sales decreased 12.4% to 9,336 units in February 2016 from 10,659 units in February 2015.
However, the total consolidated sales in the first 11 months (April to February) increased 10.1% as the company sold 1,299,903 units in the current fiscal compared to 1,180,860 units in the previous fiscal.
Performances in the utility vehicles (Gypsy, Ertiga and S-Cross) and super compact (Dzire Tour) segments remained strong. MSIL sold 8,484 units in utility vehicles, higher by 44.7% over a year-ago period while super-compact cars sales jumped 38.0% to 3,522 units year-on-year.
