JSW Steel today reported a 12 per cent rise in crude steel production at 1.113 million tonnes in July over the same month of last year. The Sajjan Jindal-led firm had produced 991,000 tonne steel in July last year, it said in a statement.
It produced 895,000 tonne flat products during the month, up 12 per cent compared to 796,000 tonnes in the same month last year. Production of long products, however, came down 7 per cent to 173,000 tonnes compared to 186,000 tonnes a year earlier.
Flat products are mainly used in automobile and consumer durables sectors while long products find application in the construction sector. In the first three months of present fiscal, JSW Steel produced 3.1 mn tonne steel, reporting a growth of 8 per cent over the April-June period of last fiscal.
