November 12: India’s steel consumption rose 6.6% to 7.05 million tons (mt) in October 2015 against 6.62 mt seen in the same period last year, according to provisional steel ministry data.
On a month-on-month basis, consumption rose 13.8% over the September consumption figure of 6.20 mt.
Finished steel production rose 1.3% year-on-year to 7.78 mt, while on a month-on-month basis finished steel production rose 8.6%.
Imports rose 34% year-on-year to 1.18 mt, while on a month-on-month basis imports rose 27.3%.
Exports, year-on-year, fell 49.7% to 256,000 tons. On a month-on-month basis, exports fell 13.5%.
Cumulative provisional figures for April-October, 2014-15 showed that steel consumption grew 4.5% to 46.20 mt, while finished steel production fell 0.4% 53.32 mt.
Imports during April-October rose 41.7% to 6.68 mt, while exports fell 30% to 2.28 mt.
