India’s finished steel production in January 2016 rose 7.8% to 7.85 million tons (mt) over the December 2015 production figure of 7.28 mt, the latest provisional steel ministry data showed.
In January 2015, finished steel production was at 8.08 mt. This shows that finished steel production fell 2.8% year-on-year.
In April-January 2015-16, finished steel production fell 1.9% to 75.56 mt from 77.06 mt a year ago. Production by SAIL, RINL, Tata Steel, JSW, Essar and JSPL fell 1% year-on- year at 38.57 mt. Production by other steel producers’ fell 3.3% to 43.65 mt in April-January.
