India’s crude steel production in March 2016 rose 8% to 8.05 million tons (mt) over the February 2016 production level of 7.46 mt, latest provisional steel ministry data showed.
In March 2015, crude steel production was at 7.79 mt. This shows that crude steel production rose 3.4% year-on-year.
In April-March, production by integrated steel producers like SAIL, RINL, Tata Steel, JSW, Essar and JSPL rose 2.8% year-on-year to 47.36 mt.
Production by other steel producers fell 1.1% to 42.41 mt in April-March.
Total crude steel production in April-March period of 2015-16 was up 0.9% to 89.77 mt as against 88.98 mt in the same period last year.
