India’s crude steel production in January 2016 rose 1.8% to 7.41 million tons (mt) over the December 2015 production level of 7.28 mt, latest provisional steel ministry data showed.
In January 2015, crude steel production was at 7.50 mt. This shows that crude steel production fell 1.2% year-on-year.
In April-January, production by integrated steel producers like SAIL, RINL, Tata Steel, JSW, Essar and JSPL rose 1.8% year-on-year to 39 mt.
Production by other steel producers fell 0.5% to 35.48 mt in April-January.
Total crude steel production in April-January period of 2015-16 was up 0.7% to 74.49 mt as against 73.98 mt in the same period last year.
