India Steel Market Watch
November 13: India’s position has come down from 5th to 8th amongst the largest producers of manganese ore (with less than 7% share), according to industry body Federation of Indian Mineral Industries (FIMI).
Indian ores are mostly low grade with high phos content. To survive in the increasingly competitive global market, producers need to focus on productivity, technology and quality improvements, as well as aggressive exploration strategies for locating and defining additional reserves, the industry body said.
All this requires liberal doses of capital and induction of state-of-the-art exploration, mining, processing, and metallurgical technologies in the Indian manganese ore industry.
The value of export of manganese ore during financial year 2014-15 has been Rs 6.72 crore.
