Anglo American's first 80,000t cargo of iron ore from its flagship Minas-Rio project in Brazil's Minas Gerais state successfully arrived at the port of Zhanjiang in southern China.
The shipment, destined for the pellet feed market, left Açu port in Rio de Janeiro state eight weeks ago, the company said in a release.
"Minas-Rio has an exceptional resource in terms of scale and ore quality, producing some of the highest quality pellet feed available for our customers across the Middle East and Asia, providing us with a clear competitive advantage," according to Anglo CEO Mark Cutifani.
In late-September, Minas Gerais state environmental regulator Copam granted the operating license for the Minas-Rio mine and processing plant. The second iron ore shipment left port mid-December.
In Brazil, Anglo American also has the Barro Alto and Codemin nickel operations, and the Jacaré and Morro Sem Boné nickel projects.
