January 5: Car sales in December 2015 increased 11.70% to 202,026 cars from 180,867 cars in the same month previous year.
For the last few months it was noticed that new launches were driving the car sales up and December was no exception. Baleno, Dzire and S-Cross from Maruti, Grand i10, Elite i20 and Creta from Hyundai were the top sellers.
The auto manufacturers are expecting a good growth in 2016 as well.
Vinod Dasari, President, SIAM and MD Ashok Leyland, said that medium and light commercial vehicle industry is expected to grow by 15–20% this year, but it will take the industry at least couple of years to catch up with the previous highs.
Dasari pointed out that the recent ban imposed on older trucks is a welcome move and might create 4-5 % additional demand.

In December, even though the festival season was over, the automobile market in India was able to retain the charm in the sales figures. It can be said that, the restricted fuel price and easy EMI car loans have made the auto market attractive for the buyers.
