India Steel Market Watch
November 11: JSW Steel said its crude steel production fell 2% to 10.22 lakh tons in October this year. The Sajjan Jindal-led firm had clocked a crude steel production level of 10.46 lakh tons (LT) during the same month last year, it said in a BSE filing.
Production of flat-rolled products declined 11% to 7.34 LT last month from a year ago whereas that of long-rolled products increased 34% at 2.06 LT during the same period, it added.
"Crude steel production was lower due to planned shutdown of the blast furnace at Dolvi works for capacity enhancement and shutdown of one of the blast furnaces for relining at Vijayanagar works," the firm said.
These furnaces are expected to resume operations by December, it added.
JSW's crude steel production was lower at 3.25 million tons (mt) for the July-September quarter of 2015-16 compared with 3.30 mt in the same quarter of 2014-15. Flat-rolled products production fell 2% at 2.57 mt while production of long-rolled products increased by 15% to 0.64 mt in the September quarter of this fiscal.
