The Chinese company Baoshan Iron & Steel Co
(Baosteel), part of the world's largest metallurgical group Baowu, announced
the commissioning of a new line for the production of cold-rolled oriented
(dynamic) steel at its main metal plant in Shanghai.
Implementation of the project, which is the second stage of expansion capacity
for the production of this product, started at the end of December 2022. The
productivity of the new line is 160,000 tons per year. At the same time, it
will mainly produce especially thin products with a thickness of up to 0.2 mm.
As Baosteel declares, a number of
technical innovations were introduced during the implementation of the project.
In particular, according to its data, the line is equipped with the fastest and
most energy-efficient firing furnaces in the world with hydrogen recycling.
With the launch of the new line,
its total dynamic steel production capacity has reached 1.16 million tons per
year. In this, the share of products with a thickness of slightly more than
0.27% now makes up about 75% of its assortment. Such steel is used, in
particular, in electric vehicles and alternative energy.
In the future, the company plans
to start the implementation of the next stage — another specialized line for
the production of particularly thin dynamic steel with a capacity of up to
220,000 tons per year.
