At least 17 people were injured today after clashes between the workers and the security personnel of Tata Steel at its Kalinganagar plant.
According to sources, some contract workers were agitating against the payment of overtime and other issues on the plant premises when the clashes took place.
The security staff had to fire to quell the agitators, in which two workers were injured.
However, Tata Steel said in a statment that nobody was injured in the firing. “The security staff had to resort to firing in the air to ward off the attacking workers, in which nobody was hurt,” it said.
